The bulk of the stellar mass in galaxies is found in regions of high surface brightness. Our ability to resolve these regions into stars is limited by confusion from overlapping stellar images. The time needed to reach the confusion limit in high surface brightness regions is short for ground-based observations limited by atmospheric seeing. In much of the Galactic Plane, Rubin LSST will be confusion-limited in less time than that of a single 30-second exposure, such that for using populations of resolved stars to probe the formation of the bright Milky Way disk and bulge, the full 10-year survey adds no depth beyond that of the first few images. This project aims to recover as much of the information that is lost to confusion in crowded Rubin LSST images as possible. We will describe three different ML/AI-based approaches to deconvolve crowded-field imaging data. We will show tests of the methods applied to both simulated images and to observed HST imaging of M32. We will compare our results to published work employing Lucy-Richardson deconvolution techniques, and describe future applications to LSST images.
