Hot Science - Cool Talks

Hot Science – Cool Talks provides a front row seat to world-class research. Presented by the Environmental Science Institute (ESI), this nationally recognized series allows leading researchers from The University of Texas and other prominent universities to share their passion about science, technology, engineering and math with the general public. Events are held six times a year (on-campus or virtually).

From 5:30-7pm, CosmicAI will have a table of swag, pamphlets on the institute, and an AR visualization demo by Emma Nally (a researcher in Stella Offner's astronomy research group). Come chat with us, grab some swag, and learn about all things CosmicAI!

What is the talk about?

Artificial intelligence is breaking free of chatbots and computer screens and moving into the physical world around us. Next-generation AI systems are learning to see, understand, and act in the world the way a person would. In this Hot Science - Cool Talks, pioneer Dr. Kristen Grauman will explore how these systems will one day coach you through a new skill, guide you through an unfamiliar place, or help with everyday tasks by watching and offering real-time feedback, making personalized learning more accessible. Join us for a look at a future where AI is a part of your environment, helping everyone learn, discover, and navigate the world more easily.

Dr. Kristen Grauman

Kristen Grauman is a Professor of Computer Science at The University of Texas at Austin, where she leads the UT Austin Computer Vision Group. Her research focuses on artificial intelligence and computer vision, developing systems that help computers understand images and video. She earned her Ph.D. from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2006 and was elected to UT Austin’s Academy of Distinguished Teachers in 2017 for her excellence in teaching and research.
